The event honors those lost during the massacre at the Babi Yar ravine in Ukraine, as well as all victims and survivors of the Holocaust. This annual ceremony encourages the community to reflect upon the ongoing violence throughout the world and to become educated on the destructive forces of hatred and bigotry through the lessons of the Holocaust. This year’s featured Keynote Speaker is David Shneer, Louis P. Singer Endowed Chair in Jewish History, Professor of History and Jewish Studies, and Chair of the department of Religious Studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He is a distinguished lecturer for the Association of Jewish Studies, faculty advisor for Yiddishkayt, co-editor of East European Jewish Affairs, and was the inaugural faculty director of CU Boulder’s Post Holocaust Judaism Archive until 2015 Professor Shneer will provide insight on the implications of the rise in Holocaust denial and revisionism in the world today and what the community can do to help combat racism and anti-Semitism.
